Hancock County Sheriff: Blue Hill Grange Burglarized, Vandalized



ELLSWORTH — Burglars stole approximately $250 worth of copper tubing from the Grange Hall in Blue Hill last week, Hancock County Sheriff’s deputies reported.

 

The thieves also caused $250 in damage to a door at the hall.

Stolen Items Recovered

A money bag that had been missing from a Blue Hill school was recovered by an Ellsworth police officer who searched a vehicle during a traffic stop in Ellsworth April 21.

“Several suspects in the case have been identified and charges are pending,” said Deputy Ben Astbury. A total of approximately $500 worth of stolen items have been recovered, he said.

Accidents

A driver was unable to stop in time and rear-ended a vehicle that had stopped to turn left into a private drive off Route 172 in Blue Hill Saturday, police said.

Travis Higgins, 20, of Surry was driving a Chevrolet, which struck a Toyota operated by Kendal Hopkins, 26, of Blue Hill, police said.

A deputy said the Chevrolet was a total loss and estimated $5,000 in damage for the Toyota.

A car went off the road and into a ditch, rolling on its side, after a motorist fell asleep on South Deer Isle Road April 20, police said.

Andrew McChesney, 19, of Blue Hill was driving south in a 1998 Saturn, which was a total loss, police reported.

A car went off the road and hit a sign before rolling over and coming to rest against a utility pole on Route 15 near Sunshine Road in Deer Isle.

Erin Hutchison, 17, of Deer Isle was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier, which was a total loss, police said.

A passenger, Travis Rhodes, 19, was summoned on a charge of possession of liquor by a minor by consumption.

Theft

Thieves broke into a storage trailer in Brooksville and stole 50 to 100 radiators, police said. The theft was reported Monday.

Burglary

Deputies are investigating a burglary at a Deer Lake camp in Township 34.
