ELLSWORTH — Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a Franklin man who, they reported, broke down a door and assaulted a woman, simultaneously disconnecting a phone line so another woman couldn’t call 911 Wednesday morning.
Deputy Dakota Dupuis arrested Damian Pickard, 39, on charges of domestic violence assault, domestic violence terrorizing, theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, burglary, obstructing report of a crime, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant, operating after revocation, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and refusing to sign a summons.
A call for help came into the Regional Communications Center at 6:45 a.m. May 29. The caller said Pickard was breaking into the house. The women at the house knew him.
“It was determined that Pickard had broken down a door and made entry into the residence,” Dupuis said. “Once inside the residence, Damian had assaulted one female while disconnecting the phone lines so the other could no longer speak with the 911 dispatchers.”
Deputies Zach Allen, Paul McPhail, Dakota Dupuis, Lt. Tim Cote and Det. Franklin Jennings responded to the home.
Meanwhile, Pickard fled the residence, taking a vehicle in the process, Dupuis said.
“After a brief investigation, deputies were able to locate Pickard driving the vehicle he had taken on the Franklin Road,” said Dupuis.
Pickard is being held without bail at the Hancock County Jail pending a court appearance, police said. He was still incarcerated Friday.
