Four Ellsworth residents arrested in Holden drug bust

ELLSWORTH — Agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested four Ellsworth residents in Holden late Thursday night as they were traveling back from Massachusetts, Maine Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said.

“Agents seized nine grams of heroin and a small amount of crack cocaine,” McCausland said.

All four were taken to the Penobscot County Jail.

Police charged Melissa Norwood, 50, and James Richardson, 32, with one count each of heroin trafficking.

Norwood’s bail was set at $5,000 cash, McCausland said. Richardson’s bail was set at $2,000.

“Melissa Norwood is currently on probation from a 2018 conviction in Massachusetts for possession of cocaine and selling heroin,” the spokesman said.

Agents arrested Dwight Norwood, 54, on one count of aggravated heroin trafficking. He was released from prison in September after finishing a 10-month sentence for heroin trafficking, McCausland said. Norwood’s bail was set at $7,000 cash.

Mariah Ryan, 24, was charged with heroin possession. Ryan’s bail was set at $200, McCausland said.
