Father and daughter wounded in accidental shooting

STONINGTON – State Police say a man and his four-year-old daughter were shot Sunday morning at their home when the handgun the man was cleaning went off.

Troopers said 38-year-old Ryan Matson was cleaning his .45 caliber handgun in the kitchen of his home on Greenhead Lane when the gun fired, wounding him in the leg and his daughter, Riley Matson, in the thigh. The girl was sitting next to her father at the time. Matson’s wife and a second child also were home at the time of the shooting and were not injured. The shooting took place at about 9 a.m.

Father and daughter suffered non-life threatening wounds and are being treated at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital.

No charges are expected, according to police.
