ELLSWORTH — Several young residents were charged in marijuana-related incidents this week.
On Oct. 15, two underage Blue Hill residents were summoned after Cpl. Shawn Merchant stopped the car they were in around 7:15 p.m.
A 16-year-old boy was charged with transportation of drugs by a minor and a 15-year-old girl was charged with possession of marijuana.
On Oct. 17, a 14-year-old Ellsworth boy was summoned on a charge of aggravated furnishing after reportedly providing the drug, which is still illegal to possess for those under 21, to other underage residents on the grounds of Ellsworth High School. He was released into the custody of his mother.
Police visited Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital on several occasions this week to help staff deal with unruly patients, including four separate times on Oct. 15, once on Oct. 16 and once on Oct. 17, according to reports.
Officers also assisted Northern Light Medical Transport staff with an intoxicated woman who fell on Oct. 17.
Custody fight, possible abuse
Officer Steven Mahon was called to a local residence on Oct. 19 to help a local couple involved in a custody dispute over a child.
Mahon is also investigating a case of possible child abuse that was reported at a residence off the Surry Road on Oct. 19.
Intoxicated, noisy residents
Officer John Stanley was called to a local parking lot around 5 a.m. for a report that “someone was parked in the parking lot beeping their horn all night.”
Stanley found that the driver had fallen asleep in the car and had accidentally been hitting the horn. The man was sleeping in his car before heading to work, according to police.
On Oct. 20 around 1 a.m., Officer Adam Bouchard warned an intoxicated man who had urinated in a public parking lot that such behavior is not allowed.
Officer Levi Soper was called to a local gas station on Oct. 16 just before midnight for a report of a man who was intoxicated and attempting to sell liquor, according to a report, but was unable to find anyone matching the man’s description.
Shortly thereafter, Officer Soper moved along a man who was reportedly intoxicated and “passed out” in the lobby of a local hotel on Oct. 17 around 3 a.m.
Animal incidents reported
A local resident called police on Oct. 21 to report hearing a “coyote followed by gunshots,” according to a police report. Officer Bouchard checked the area but found no one there.
Dustin Raybourn of Ellsworth was uninjured on Oct. 15 when the truck he was driving hit a deer that ran out into the road on Bridge Hill around 6:30 p.m., according to a report of the incident submitted by Cpl. Merchant.
Officer Stanley arrested John McMurphy, 66, of Cameron Park, Calif., on Oct. 17 on a charge of operating under the influence.
John Moldoon, 31, of Ellsworth was arrested on Oct. 17 on a warrant charging him with failure to appear.
Officer Bouchard arrested Tara Norland, 38, of Orland on Oct. 19 on a charge of operating under the influence.
Sgt. Shawn Willey arrested Ellsworth resident Starr Smith, 57, on Oct. 18 on charges of hindering apprehension and violating bail conditions.
Willey arrested Earl Awalt, 49, of Ellsworth on Oct. 18 on a charge of violating his bail conditions after he was found at a property where his bail stipulated he was not allowed, according to police.
Officer Soper arrested William Stroud, 46, of Eastbrook on a warrant on Oct. 16.
Sgt. Chad Wilmot arrested Graydon Dobbs, 22, of Bar Harbor on a charge of violating his bail on Oct. 16 after he was “found drinking,” according to a police report.
Mark Saucier, 33, of Bar Harbor was arrested on Oct. 16 by Officer Bouchard on an active warrant and on charges of operating under the influence and operating after suspension.
Cpl. Merchant arrested Lester Negron, 26, of Bar Harbor on a charge of operating under the influence on Oct. 16.
Debby Dubois, 58, of Florida was charged with operating after suspension after Officer Josh Steward stopped her for speeding on Oct. 20.
Kevin D. Ramdial, 32, of Lamoine was summoned on a charge of criminal speeding on Oct. 19 after he was stopped by Officer Bouchard. Ramdial was reportedly traveling 61 mph in a 25-mph zone on High Street.
Officer Steward summoned 18-year-old Nevada Rooney of Ellsworth on a charge of having a dog at large, a civil violation, after the department received a complaint of a dog running through a local property on Oct. 9.
Thefts and other losses
Officer Soper is looking into a reported theft of goods that occurred at a local supermarket on Oct. 16.
Dakota Stanwood, 26, of Ellsworth was summoned by Officer Jon Mahon on Oct. 22 on a charge of failing to register a motor vehicle for between 30 and 150 days following a traffic stop on High Street.
