Ellsworth Police log week of Nov. 28



ELLSWORTH — A 37-year-old Ellsworth man turned himself in to police on Nov. 24 after he reportedly crashed the sport utility vehicle he was driving on Union Street while under the influence with a child in the vehicle.

Cpl. Shawn Merchant reported that Gregory Bryson was allegedly driving while intoxicated and had his 2-year-old child in the SUV when the vehicle went off the road and ended up on its side.

Bryson reportedly left the scene, dropped off the child and turned himself in to police.

Bryson was arrested on charges of operating under the influence, failure to notify by quickest means, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and endangering the welfare of a child. He also was issued a civil summons for failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle.

Car rams police cruiser

An 18-year-old Ellsworth man who was reportedly intoxicated around 2 p.m. on Nov. 22 was arrested after he urinated on the side of a building and rammed his car into an Ellsworth Police Department cruiser, according to a police report.

Sgt. Chad Wilmot met with Jordan Smart after Smart reportedly urinated on the side of a local business. When Wilmot asked Smart, who was sitting in his car, to turn the car off, Smart reportedly “put it in reverse and rammed my cruiser in an effort to get away.”

Smart was charged with OUI, operating after suspension, driving to endanger, operating beyond license restriction, refusing to submit to arrest or detention and a civil charge of illegal possession of liquor by a minor.

Domestic violence charges

A 29-year-old Ellsworth man was arrested on Nov. 22 after his girlfriend showed police bruising on her right shoulder, arms and legs and told Officer Christopher Smith that the man had pushed her.

Brandon Jones, 29, was arrested on charges of domestic violence assault and domestic violence criminal threatening.

The woman told police that she had been in the process of leaving Jones for ongoing abusive behavior when the incident, which reportedly happened on the 20th, occurred. Jones told officers that the woman had “done it to herself.”

Deer guts in the river

Officer Brian Smith responded to Harbor Park on Nov. 21 just before 5 p.m. for a report of two men gutting a deer and tossing the remains in the water, but the two were gone by the time police arrived.

Neighborhood watch

Officer Smith checked on two people “who had been sitting at Dunkin’ Donuts for hours” on Nov. 20, but found they had no need of police assistance, according to a report.

Sgt. Wilmot spoke with a man and woman who were reportedly acting “suspiciously” on Nov. 20. The woman was transported to Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital via ambulance for a medical issue.

The man, Timothy Blackwell, 34, of Ellsworth, was arrested by Officer Christopher Smith on an outstanding warrant charging failure to pay fines.

Gift card scam reported

Officer John Stanley reported on Nov. 18 that a local resident had been scammed out of $2,000 after sending gift cards via email.

Follower report unfounded

Officer Smith responded to a report of a man possibly following a woman on High Street on Nov. 21 around 11 p.m. but decided upon investigation that the report was unfounded.

Arrests

Officer Smith arrested Jeremy Greatorex, 42, of Stockton Springs on Nov. 20 on two counts of possession of Schedule W drugs.

Officer Adam Bouchard arrested 27-year-old Justin Kane of Hancock on Nov. 23 on a charge of operating under the influence and violating conditions of release.

Summons

Cpl. Kelvin Mote served Robert Mann, 40, of Ellsworth a summons on Nov. 21 for allegedly negotiating a worthless instrument.

Thefts and other losses

Sgt. Wilmot issued a summons to Lawrence Mauldin, 32, of Ellsworth for alleged theft at Walmart on Nov. 22.

Officer Smith was called to a local department store on Nov. 22 for a reported theft of a pair of jeans, but the suspect was gone by the time he arrived.

Avegail Harbants, 22, of Surry was summoned by Officer Stanley on a theft charge on Nov. 23 after an incident at Walmart.

Officer Stanley is looking into a report that a lawn mower was stolen from a residence on Laurel Street on Nov. 23.

Traffic violations

Gene Lyons, 52, of Ellsworth, speeding 45 mph in a 25-mph-zone on Main Street on Nov. 22.

Justin Kane, 27, of Hancock, speeding 52 mph in a 25-mph-zone on Main Street on Nov. 23.

Rebecca Thurston, 50, of Ellsworth, operating an unregistered motor vehicle following a traffic stop on Main Street on Nov. 21.
