Ellsworth Police Log Week of June 6



ELLSWORTH — A resident who was reportedly setting off fireworks during the afternoon of May 30 was asked by police to keep the noise down because it was scaring a neighbor’s horse.

The reveler agreed to stop setting off fireworks.

Hit-and-run

Police are investigating an early-morning accident on June 2 in which a pickup truck hit a utility pole on lower State Street and left the scene. Officers later found the truck but the driver had left.

Car hits dog

An Ellsworth resident was driving north on Parcher Street on May 29 when the car she was in hit a large white dog that ran out into the street.

The dog was knocked over but got up and limped off, according to a police report.

Abandoned vehicle

Officers are looking for the owner of a car parked at a local business since May 28.

Medical issues

Police responded to reports of residents struggling with mental health, substance abuse disorder and other medical emergencies this week.

One man was taken to the hospital on May 27 and another was turned over to his mother on May 28.

On May 30, police were asked to check on a local resident who reportedly was intoxicated and “made statements [indicating they might] harm themselves.” The resident was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

Officers responded to a report that a vehicle was parked in front of a local residence on May 28 with a man “passed out” in front. A family member came and picked him and the vehicle up.

A woman was taken to the hospital and given a disorderly conduct warning on June 1 after police reportedly found her yelling on School Street.

Police responded to a report of a medical emergency on June 2. The resident was found to have passed away. There is “nothing suspicious” about the death, according to a report.

Domestic issue

Police responded to a domestic incident involving a girl and her grandmother on May 23. The girl was brought to school and the Department of Health and Human Services was contacted.

Facebook harassment

On May 29, a resident reported being harassed via Facebook. Police were unable to locate the alleged harasser but the posts were removed the same day.

Bar fight

Officers responded to a report of a fight at a local bar on May 30 but by the time they arrived the fight had ended, according to a police report. The parties were separated for the night.

Missing woman found

Officers helped the Washington County Sheriff’s Office search for a woman who was reported missing from Milbridge on May 30.

The woman was located and the Sheriff’s Office was notified.

Arrests

Dawn James, 45, of Ellsworth was arrested on May 28 on a probation hold.

Adam Chavez, 40, of Bar Harbor turned himself in on May 29 on a warrant for failure to appear dating from 2018.

Nicholas Stanley, 33, transient was arrested on May 30 for reportedly violating conditions of release.

Aaron Gilbert, 22, of Ellsworth was arrested on May 30 and charged with bail violation.

Susan Cummings, 49, of Ellsworth was arrested on May 31 on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant.

Ricky Spofford, 59, of Deer Isle was arrested on June 1 on a charge of OUI following a traffic stop.

Summons

Justin Barnard, 22, of Ellsworth was summoned on a charge of operating without a license following a traffic stop on May 30.

Thefts and other losses

Jennifer Craig, 42, of Hancock was summoned on a theft charge on May 28 after an investigation by Walmart.

Ladaya Anderson, 44, of Sedgwick also was summoned on a theft charge on May 28 after an incident at Walmart and was warned not to return to the store.

Police are looking into a case of reported criminal mischief on May 28 in which a window of a local business was damaged.

Officers are also investigating a case of vandalism that was reported on May 23 in which a resident’s front lawn was damaged by a vehicle.

Motorcycle plates from a bike belonging to a local resident were reported stolen on June 3.

Traffic violations

The following residents were summoned for alleged traffic violations this week:

Norman Mrozicki, 22, of Surry, operating an unregistered motor vehicle for between 30 and 150 days following a traffic stop on High Street on June 4.

Abram Guay, 40, of Orland, failure to provide valid proof of inspection following a traffic stop on High Street on May 31.

Matthew Pinkham, 27, of Ellsworth, unregistered vehicle following a traffic stop on State Street on May 31.

Corey Matthews, 48, of Eastbrook, failure to provide valid proof of inspection following a traffic stop on May 31.

Robert Burnett, 57, of Franklin, speeding 54 mph in a 25-mph zone on the Bucksport Road on May 31.

Marshall Williams, 54, of Ellsworth, failure to provide valid proof of inspection following a traffic stop on Union Street on May 30.

Joshua Busby, 31, of Dedham, speeding 35 mph in a 25-mph zone on the Bucksport Road on May 29.

Victoria Liu, 97, of Bethany, Conn., speeding 54 mph in a 30-mph zone on State Street on May 25.

Daniel Brown, 38, of Lamoine, speeding 46 mph in a 25-mph zone on the Bucksport Road on May 28.
