ELLSWORTH — Police used K-9 tracker dogs to find a man who fled the scene of a motor vehicle crash on Main Street on July 7 around 3:15 p.m.
According to a police report, the driver of the car, 51-year-old transient Jayson Richards, was wanted for theft. Richards reportedly fled the scene on foot. A police dog tracked him through a swamp, into a field and out onto a roadway, where police found residents “yelling about” the man’s location. Officers spotted him a short time later and took him into custody. He was transported to Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital.
When he is released from the hospital, police said in a press release, Richards will be charged with operating under the influence, Class D, aggravated operating after habitual offender status, Class C, failure to notify by quickest means, Class E, leaving the scene of an accident, Class E, and failure to provide evidence of insurance, a civil infraction. Records show that Richards was arrested on a warrant for alleged theft on July 10.
Police responded to a local church on July 7 for a report of a woman having thoughts of suicide. After speaking with her, they found she was not suicidal but was not feeling well. She was transported to the hospital.
On July 8, officers were called to Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital for a report of a woman “swearing and yelling” while leaving the emergency department. The woman was gone before police arrived.
Police brought a woman to the hospital for a mental health evaluation on July 8.
Officers assisted the Gouldsboro Police Department with an issue in the emergency room at Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital on July 11.
A woman found unconscious and not breathing on July 11 was later pronounced deceased. No further details were available.
Small vehicle fire
Police assisted members of the Ellsworth Fire Department with a vehicle fire in the parking lot of a local business on July 10. No injuries were reported.
Nicholas Beal, 28, of Ellsworth was arrested on July 7 on a charge of unlawful possession of Schedule W drugs.
Roger Daigle, 48, of Sedgwick was taken to jail on July 7 on a probation hold.
Wayne M. Kane, 51, of Hancock was arrested on July 7 on a charge of violation of bail.
Sheldon Jordan, 32, of Waltham was charged with operating after suspension following a motor vehicle complaint on July 11.
Nelson Perez, 28, of California and Austin Lemoine, 23, of Franklin were summoned on July 8 on charges of disorderly conduct and fighting after an incident in the parking lot of a local bar.
Wyatt Sochin, 29, of Bar Harbor was charged with operating without a license following a traffic stop on July 12.
