Ellsworth Police Log Week of Jan. 31



ELLSWORTH — A man who picked up a hitchhiker on Water Street on Jan. 24 called police after noticing that she had “passed out,” according to a report of the incident.

A police dispatcher told the man he should take the woman to the hospital, “which he did.”

Man tells police to bring him to jail

After police responded to the Circle K on Jan. 25 for a report of an intoxicated man, the subject of the call told officers that he had “stolen something yesterday and wanted to go to jail,” according to a report.

Officers “transported the man by ambulance to the hospital for having frostbite.”

Mental health calls

Officers responded to several residents struggling with mental health issues this week.

On Jan. 26, police received a report of a child who had fallen into the water outside a local residence.

Officers spoke to the caller and determined that “there was no child; this was due to the mental health of an elderly resident.”

The next day, officers were called to the home of an elderly woman, who reported that her car had been stolen.

It turned out that the woman suffers from dementia, according to police, and that a friend had written permission to use the car, which was returned.

Citizen assist

Police helped a man who had fallen in the snow and cut his hand trying to get to his car on Jan. 21.

“Ambulance personnel cleared him medically,” officers wrote in a report, and “we shoveled out his car so he could access it easier.”

Officers assist hospital

Police were called to Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital on Jan. 27 to help with “an uncooperative subject,” according to a report.

Officers assisted hospital staff. The patient was “given medication and cooperative.”

Dancer unable to be found

Police failed to locate a woman who was “wearing a backpack” and “looking for Wi-Fi” on Jan. 25, according to a report of the incident.

Officers also were unable to find a man on High Street on Jan. 23 who was reportedly “dancing and gesturing towards traffic.”

Arrests

James P. Desmond, 51, of Ellsworth was arrested on Jan. 17 for allegedly violating his probation.

Dylan Sieber, 23, of Brooksville was arrested on Jan. 27 on three warrants charging him with failure to appear and failure to pay restitution.

Devin Lee, 21, of Milbridge was arrested on a charge of violating conditions of release following a traffic stop on Jan. 27.

Theresa Graham, 33, of Hancock was arrested on charges of possession of hypodermic apparatuses and refusing to submit to arrest or detention following a probation check on Jan. 25.

Courtney Jolin, 28, of Ellsworth was arrested on Jan. 24 on an outstanding warrant.

Meredith Wullen, 39, of Trenton was arrested on Jan. 23 on a warrant charging her with failure to appear following an “interaction” with officers on Water Street, according to a report.

Thefts and other losses

Officers are investigating a shoplifting incident that reportedly occurred at Marden’s on Jan. 22.

A man reported his cell phone missing on Jan. 24 and told police he believed his roommate had taken it.

Traffic violations

Dympna Calandro, 35, of Ellsworth was charged with failure to provide proof of insurance following a traffic stop on State Street on Jan. 28.

Douglas Jones, 69, of Ellsworth was charged with failure to provide proof of insurance following a traffic stop on High Street on Jan. 28.

Speeding ticket

Vivek Kumar, 46, of Bar Harbor, 34 mph in a 25-mph-zone on High Street on Jan. 18.
