Ellsworth Police Log Week of Dec. 31

ELLSWORTH — Officers fielded several reports of suspicious activity and vehicles in the days leading up to and after Christmas but after investigating found nothing suspicious to report.

A local resident reported “suspicious activity” on his street on Dec. 22. Officers investigated the area but found nothing suspicious at the time. Officers also received a report of “suspicious activity” on the property of a caller on Dec. 28.

A driver who had pulled into a local parking lot was checked by police on Dec 27. Police learned the driver was just taking a break. This followed officers responding to a report of a “suspicious vehicle” on Dec. 25. Nothing suspicious was found. And on Dec 19, when responding to a report of an unresponsive man sitting in his car, police found the man was using his laptop and was fine. 


Police warned someone for harassment and issued a trespass notice after an incident with an Ellsworth resident on Dec. 24.

Police warned a local person for harassment over telephone calls to another individual on Dec. 28.

Disorderly and trespassing

Police are investigating a complaint about a woman trespassing on Dec. 21.

Officers spoke with people who prompted a call over disorderly conduct on Dec. 28.

Runaway found

Police received a report of a runaway youth, who was later found, on Dec. 28.

Well-being checks

An officer spoke with a local resident for a well-being check and found the person to be fine on Dec. 26. 

An officer was flagged down regarding a suicidal person, who was taken to the hospital for an evaluation on Dec. 24.

Police responded to a local home on Dec. 24 after receiving a request from someone to check on the well-being of a family member. That person was then taken to Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital for alcohol-related issues.

An officer received a request that a local woman be checked for possible mental health issues on Dec. 23.

Officers responded to a local apartment for a well-being check on Dec. 21. A resident there was then taken to the hospital. A Northern Light ambulance was dispatched.

Agency assists

Police assisted the Hancock County Jail by supervising an inmate at a local hospital on Dec. 27.

A police officer checked on a local resident on probation at the request of the probation officer on Dec. 22.


Police received a report of theft from a local business on Dec. 24. The incident is under investigation.

Police received a report of items stolen from a package delivered to a local store on Dec. 23.

Officers responded to a report of theft of items worth $45 from Marden’s on Dec. 23.

Police are investigating a reported theft at Renys on Dec. 21.


Jeremy Sawyer, 41, of Brooklin was arrested after a car accident by the former Denny’s on High Street on Dec. 24. Sawyer was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant and on a warrant charging failure to appear in court.


A shopper at Hannaford, James A. Bray of Southwest Harbor, exited the store on Dec. 23 to find his 2016 Ford Super Duty truck had been struck by an unknown vehicle, causing dents and scratches estimated at $700 to repair.
