Ellsworth man charged in Franklin burned vehicle case

ELLSWORTH — An Ellsworth man was arrested Wednesday in connection with the theft and burning of a 2006 Dodge Durango, which was found destroyed in Franklin July 8, Maine Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland reported.

Hancock County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Christopher Whynott, 26, on a charge of burglary of a motor vehicle and two counts of violating conditions of his release, Deputy Travis Frost reported.

McCausland said the Maine Fire Marshal’s Office additionally charged Whynott with arson.

The sport utility vehicle was taken from a home on the Bert Gray Road in Sullivan and was later found destroyed by fire off the Alder Brook Road in Franklin, McCausland said.
