Dump truck, SUV collide on Washington Junction Road

HANCOCK — The Maine State Police are investigating a crash involving a dump truck and sport utility vehicle, which injured both motorists on the Washington Junction Road in Hancock Monday morning.

Lt. Rod Charette said the dump truck went into the oncoming lane and struck the SUV’s passenger side. The truck then rolled on its side.

“Both operators suffered broken bones as a result of the crash and were transported to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth,” Charette said.

Michael Fraser, 56, of Holden was driving the dump truck, which is owned by Wellman Paving of Winterport, police said.

Jason Farnsworth, 64, of Bucksport was driving the SUV, police said. Farnsworth tried but was unable to avoid the truck.

“What caused Fraser to travel into the opposite lane is still under investigation,” Charette said. Trooper Blaine Silk is the primary investigator and was assisted by several troopers, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and the Hancock Fire Department.
