Drivers arrested after cop cruiser contacts

BAR HARBOR — A Bar Harbor man was arrested Saturday after crashing his scooter into a police cruiser. Another man was taken into custody the previous day after allegedly recklessly passing a police cruiser on the right-hand side.

According to reports, Officer Larry Fickett was stopped in the cruiser at the intersection of Kennebec and Cottage streets Saturday when Jared Erskine, 29, ran his moped into the rear driver’s side of the car. Erskine then allegedly got up quickly and attempted to leave. After smelling liquor on Erskine’s breath, Officer Fickett conducted a field sobriety test and subsequently arrested Erskine on a charge of operating while under the influence of alcohol or drugs (OUI).

Christopher Fox, 27, of Bangor, was arrested Friday on Route 3 on a charge of driving to endanger after allegedly passing several cars on the right-hand side, including a police cruiser driven by Officer Chris Wharff. Fox’s Mazda was impounded.
