Charges fly after motorist flees

MOUNT DESERT — A Tremont man was arrested early Sunday after he reportedly tried to elude an officer who was attempting to stop him for allegedly speeding, making an improper pass and a defective taillight.

According to the report, Nicholas Chandler, 21, accelerated in an attempt to get away from Officer Dana Austin after the officer had turned on the blue lights and siren of his cruiser. Chandler finally stopped in Hall Quarry and was placed under arrest. He is charged with eluding an officer, driving to endanger, criminal speeding, operating after suspension, attaching false license plates, possession of a useable amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
