Bucksport Man Indicted in Connection With Drive-in Fire

ELLSWORTH — A Bucksport man who allegedly set fire to Crosby’s Drive-in was indicted by a Hancock County grand jury Tuesday.

According to Bucksport police, an officer was driving on Route 46 around 11 p.m. on Sept. 26 when he spotted Christopher Allen, 20, coming out from behind the drive-in.

The officer stopped and questioned Allen, who smelled of diesel fuel, police said.

Allen allegedly told the officer he had been working on a lawn mower. The officer pointed out that lawn mowers run on gasoline, not diesel.

After checking out a neighboring business, the officer spotted smoke at the rear of Crosby’s. Then the officer saw flames shoot out of a restaurant window and ignite the roof. Officers used fire extinguishers on the blaze until the Bucksport Fire Department arrived.

The grand jury indicted Allen on charges of burglary, criminal mischief and two counts of arson.

Allen is still in custody in the Hancock County Jail and is scheduled to appear in Hancock County Superior Court Dec. 18 for a status conference. Ellsworth attorney Jeffrey Toothaker represents Allen.
