Austin named Trooper of the Year

ELLSWORTH — Maine State Police Troop J officers awarded their colleague, Trooper Dana Austin, with the Parola Award.

The Parola Award is named after the late Trooper Jeff Parola. Parola died in Sidney Nov. 13, 1994, in a motor vehicle accident while en route to a domestic violence call involving firearms.

Austin also was named Troop J’s Trooper of the Year. The troop’s three sergeants make that recommendation.

“A lot of the time the Parola awardee is the same person that gets nominated to be Trooper of the Year, but not always,” said Troop J Commander Rod Charette.

“Dana has proven himself to be a very capable trooper,” said Charette. “He does a tremendous amount of work and routinely develops successful prosecution cases. He has a great attitude and is well liked in the troop and as such was chosen to be the Troop J nominee for the 2018 Trooper of the Year award.”
