Austin joins Troop J April 18, 2017 on Cops & Courts, News Dana AustinMAINE STATE POLICE PHOTO ELLSWORTH — Local law enforcement officer Dana Austin has joined the Maine State Police. Austin finished 10 weeks of specialized state police training on April 7 and has been assigned to Troop J, which patrols Hancock and Washington counties. The specialized training is in addition to the 18 weeks of training required for all Maine police officers. Austin received his new badge in an April 7 ceremony at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro. Maine State Police spokesman Steve McCausland said Austin grew up in Ellsworth and is a graduate of Ellsworth High School and the University of Maine at Presque Isle. The new trooper was most recently a deputy with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office. Previously, Austin worked as Mount Desert Island police officer.
