TREMONT — A forum to discuss the possible consolidation of the Tremont Consolidated School and the Pemetic Elementary School in Southwest Harbor is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, at the Tremont school. Residents of both towns are invited to attend and participate.
Two models for consolidation are being considered. One has students in kindergarten through fourth grade attending the Tremont school and older students attending Pemetic in a middle-school environment. The other model would be for Tremont students in the fifth through eighth grades to attend middle school at Pemetic and keep the younger students in their respective schools.
The forum follows others on the issue held earlier this year in both towns. Closing the Tremont school was discussed at these forums but proved to be an unpopular alternative and will not be part of the discussion, according to Union 98 superintendent Rob Liebow.
