Coast Guard Suspends Search for Missing Fishermen

STONINGTON — The Coast Guard has suspended its search for two local fishermen missing off the coast of Massachusetts.

The search for Captain Wallace Gray II, 25, and his crewman, Wayne Young, 50, ended at 5:55 p.m.

The men left Gloucester, Mass., early Saturday morning on a day trip to fish for scallops aboard the 45-foot Stonington-based Foxy Lady II. At about 8:05 Monday morning, the Coast Guard was notified by telephone that the boat had failed to return to Gloucester on Saturday as planned.

Gray’s girlfriend reported that she had last been in contact with Gray sometime around noon Saturday via text messages.

The last known location of the Foxy Lady II was approximately 15 miles north of Provincetown, Mass.

An empty life raft belonging to the boat came ashore in Saugus, Mass., Tuesday.

Crews searched more than 2,800 square miles with no sign of the fishermen.
