COA withdraws application to convert building

BAR HARBOR — Officials with College of the Atlantic have officially withdrawn their application to convert the Harbor Hill Estates low-income housing apartment building into a “private school” with student housing.

A purchase and sale agreement for the property that COA officials held with owner Pam Gleichman also will expire at the end of this month. School officials had shared their intention to keep their planning board application alive through the scheduled Feb. 20 public hearing, but asked for a full withdrawal on Tuesday.

Their proposal had been met with resistance from residents of the building.
