City issued 11 building permits in October

ELLSWORTH — Just 11 building permits were issued by the city’s Code Enforcement Office in October, with one permit allowing for alterations at 59 Downeast Highway, the new location for Mike’s Country Store. The convenience store recently closed on Water Street and reopened at the new location Nov. 9. It joins Mike’s Redemption Center, which moved to the new address next to Helen’s earlier this year.

The city also issued a commercial permit to install six additional storage pods and tear down a barn on Hagans Elbow, the site for 1 Stop Self Storage, whose expansion was approved by the Planning Board in June.

Additionally, construction of two new single-family homes, on Nevells Way and on Bucksport Road, received permits in a comparatively slow month, where half as many permits were issued than in September.
