Circumstances of fatal crash not yet under review by DA

ELLSWORTH — A three-vehicle crash on the Surry Road in Surry that claimed the life of an Ellsworth woman on July 28 has not yet been reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office, according to authorities.

“We don’t have the investigation in our system yet,” said District Attorney Matt Foster. Once Foster has the materials, he will determine if any criminal charges should be brought from the crash.

The deceased woman, Kathleen Anderson, was 66 and died at the scene, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office reported. Anderson was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer, which rolled over and skidded on its roof after being struck by a westbound 2019 Subaru Outback operated by Thomas Bugbee, 62, of Blue Hill, police said.

Police said the Subaru had tried to pass several vehicles and, while re-entering the westbound lane, struck a Honda Civic then spun sideways and struck Anderson’s Trailblazer.

Daniel T. McLaughlin, 36, of Somerville, Mass., was operating the Honda Civic, police said. Bugbee and McLaughlin’s passenger, Tara Fortunato, 38, of Tewksbury, Mass., were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at local hospitals.
