Cause of Surry camp fire undetermined

SURRY — The cause of a fire that claimed a camp on Carter Cove Lane overlooking Toddy Pond on May 23 is undetermined, according to the Maine Fire Marshal’s Office.

However, the fire definitely did not start with the structure’s heating source, according to investigators.

Senior Investigator John Wardwell said on Tuesday that an oil furnace was “ruled out” as a source of the fire.

Fire Chief Richard Black said no one was at the camp when the fire broke out. Several boaters and motorists reported the fire, which was visible from the water, to authorities.
