Versant gives $15K for heating assistance

ELLSWORTH — Downeast Community Partners (DCP) has received a $15,000 donation from Versant Power. The donation to DCP’s The Heating and Warmth (THAW) fund will provide heating assistance to households in Hancock and Washington counties based on need, regardless of income.

“Versant Power’s generous donation will make a significant difference in our ability to continue to help people who are in a very vulnerable situation, struggling to heat their homes through winter in Maine,” said Lee Hardison, DCP director of energy services. The THAW fund served 556 households in 2020, providing approximately 100 gallons of fuel per household at a cost of approximately $251 per household and a total cost of $139,502. The THAW fund is comprised entirely of donations from the community, and the need for heating assistance increases as fuel prices continue to rise.

“Downeast Community Partners’ Home Energy Assistance Program is a wonderful resource to Hancock and Washington county residents who need help covering their heating costs,” said Versant Power Vice President of Finance Kris Chahley. “We know this gift will help Downeast Community Partners continue to assist community members in need this winter.”

Recognizing the value of the strategic partnership this donation represents, DCP Executive Director Rebecca Palmer said “DCP’s success and impact is a direct result of partnerships with and support from organizations and members of the community, such as Versant Power, that have a shared commitment to the community. This charitable gift of $15,000 to DCP’s Heating Assistance Program is a catalyst that amplifies the impact for families served. We at DCP appreciate this valuable donation from Versant Power as it advances our efforts to serve our neighbors who are struggling to make ends meet.”
