ELLSWORTH — Have you noticed an excess of vehicles parked at the Enterprise Rent-A-Car on Route 3?
There were over 60 vehicles, most displaying out-of-state registrations, parked at the business last week. The vehicles are clustered behind the rental office building as well and spilled over into the neighboring Super Shoes parking lot.
While the Ellsworth branch is temporarily closed, Enterprise Holdings is still operating. The backup in vehicles is due to the lack of travel because of COVID-19, the company said. A Bangor location is open for curbside rental transactions.
“Like others across the travel industry — and countless other companies large and small — we have witnessed an impact to our business,” said Lisa Martini, a spokeswoman for Enterprise Holdings. “This includes a decrease in reservations as travel has come to a standstill. As a result, we have had to park cars not currently in use.”
“While the COVID-19 global health crisis has been extremely tough on the travel industry, Enterprise Holdings continues to serve customers who rely on us to provide critical transportation options or that support emergency services, utilities, the military and local governments in their efforts,” Martini said.
“We remain open and are committed to helping serve these critical transportation infrastructure needs during this challenging time,” said Martini. “While we remain open for business, we have modified our offerings at some locations for the benefit and well-being of both employees and customers.”
The Hertz Rental Car location at the Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport in Trenton is open.
