MOUNT DESERT — Contracts of $4.2 million for upgrading the Northeast Harbor waste water treatment plant and $2 million for building a new highway department garage have been awarded to the low bidders by the board of selectmen. Together, those bids came in about $752,000 under the project engineers’ estimates.
Voters at the May town meeting will be asked to approve bond issues totaling $7.3 million for the two projects. That amount would cover construction, project management, inspections and contingencies.
Penta Corporation of Moultonboro, N.H., won the contract for the treatment plant project. Sheridan Corporation of Fairfield was the low bidder for the garage job.
