New T.J. Maxx to Open Sunday

ELLSWORTH — T.J. Maxx will open Sunday at 8 a.m. at Maine Coast Mall. In celebration of the new store, before the opening, the retailer will present a $5,000 check to Downeast Health Services at 7:30 a.m.

“We are excited to be a part of the Ellsworth community and thrilled to be able to give back to the area,” said T.J. Maxx spokesman Laura McDowell.

The discount fashion retailer is opening in a 21,000-square-foot site at Maine Coast Mall. The store will occupy the site where Marden’s had been located before moving to Route 3.

T.J. Maxx spokesman Thea Houghton said for the grand opening the store would be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The regular store hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.

“In addition to providing a new shopping option for local residents and area workers, the new store will add approximately 60 full- and part-time jobs to the area,” Houghton said.

T.J. Maxx President Michael MacMillan said in a press release that “with the addition of the Ellsworth store, T.J. Maxx is meeting consumer demand for quality, designer merchandise. Our newest store will offer shoppers the same designer names they know and trust at prices well below department stores.”

The new store has a home section with bed and bath, home decor items, gourmet food and kitchen needs such as utensils, linens, cooking and bake ware.

T.J. Maxx also has designer apparel for women, men and children as well as accessories, footwear and jewelry.
