Nature, arts shop opens annex

MOUNT DESERT — The Naturalist’s Notebook, an eclectic science, nature and arts shop in Seal Harbor, has opened an “annex” four miles away in Northeast Harbor.

It is in a small space at the beginning of Main Street.

“We wanted to create a representative taste of the full, original shop,” said Craig Neff, who owns the Naturalist’s Notebook with Pamelia Markwood.

The annex has science and nature books, games and puzzles, paintings and art supplies.

“We also have binoculars and notebooks and journals, things to take out into the field,” Mr. Neff said. “There’s lots of things to stimulate your brain, your aesthetic sense and your eagerness to go outside and dig into nature.

Since the Northeast Harbor shop opened July 15, Mr. Neff said the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
