BLUE HILL — A local nail salon, Classic Nails, has changed hands.
Naomi Bowden of Penobscot has taken over the business at 165 Ellsworth Road from longtime owner Barb Small.
Bowden, a Blue Hill native, went to cosmetology school three years ago and began working on nails.
“I had an interest in it but never really did anything about it,” Bowden said. “I found out that this kind of work is something that’s in need in the Blue Hill area simply because of all the surrounding towns in Blue Hill. I decided it could be something that would be a very good business to get going.”
Bowden had been a nail technician at Focus on You in Ellsworth. She had planned to buy some equipment that Small was selling and ended up buying the business instead.
“She was ready to retire,” Bowden said. “I was going to look at some of her equipment and then found out I could also rent that shop and have all of the things that she had there. So, I jumped on it.”
“I’m doing manicures and pedicures,” she said. “I am doing a shellac, which you put on your nails and it protects them for a couple of weeks. I’m also doing a hard gel that stays on for a couple of weeks as well. it doesn’t completely come off you just do a fill.”
“I’m also in the midst of playing with and trying to work another type of gel,” Bowden said. “It’s similar to an acrylic because it’s so hard and thick.”
Bowden works Monday through Friday, but customers can call anytime to arrange an appointment. Call Classic Nails at 460-3114.
