Laundry to Offer Suds

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Customers at the Village Washtub laundry will soon be able to sip some suds while washing and drying their duds.

The planning board last week approved a permit for Feliciano’s LLC to add a 39-seat cocktail lounge to the Main Street laundry. Nearly 450 square feet of the lounge will be inside the main building; an additional 325 square feet of seating will be on a screened patio.

Jose Feliciano, Sr., owner of the Village Washtub, said his son, Jose Jr., and Clarivel Rodriguez will run the lounge, which is to be called Feliciano’s Sports Lounge.

The lounge will be low-key, a place where all people, not just Village Washtub customers, can drink a beer and watch some sports, Mr. Feliciano said.

“It’s a place they can come and relax,” he said.

Along with beer, wine and spirits, sandwiches will be available. Before the lounge opens, selectmen must approve a liquor license, and state permits need approval. The owners hope to begin operation in the fall.

The Feliciano family bought the Village Washtub after moving to Southwest Harbor from New Jersey.

“I love Maine,” Mr. Feliciano said. “I just wanted to get out of New Jersey.

Southwest Harbor seemed a good place to invest in a business, he said. “Our goal was to help revive Southwest Harbor.”
