ELLSWORTH — Hannaford Supermarket & Pharmacy will hold festivities Fridays through Sundays from June 7 through 28 to celebrate its recent $3.9-million makeover.
The renovations, including an updated pharmacy and expansion of fresh food options, began last August. Bangor-based architecture firm WBRC oversaw the project.
“We are very happy to be able to offer such an expanded lineup of grocery items to our customers, as well as in-store prepared items that will save them time without sacrificing quality,” said Manager Nick Bartlett in a statement.
“The remodeled pharmacy, including a new private patient consultation area, is something we’re also very excited to offer to our customers.”
The company is following in the footsteps of drugstore chains by offering expanded health care services in its pharmacy area. The remodel includes a new patient consultation room in the pharmacy department where customers can receive immunizations and speak privately to a pharmacist.
The makeover will cater to changing tastes, with a bigger produce department and organic selection, more gluten-free bakery items and a deli kitchen with a stir-fry grill, in-store prepared sushi and a hot food bar. There will be more freshly cut seafood options and nearly 800 additional items on store shelves.
The Ellsworth store now has six self-checkout registers, and there will be a new CLYNK bottle redemption facility outside the store.
Customers also can order groceries online and pick them up in the store, a service that became available in December.
Each week of the reopening celebration will feature a different theme, with product sampling from local vendors, giveaways and other activities.
Hannaford Supermarkets is based in Scarborough, with 181 stores throughout the Northeast.
