Engineers honored for sewer plant project

ELLSWORTH — The engineering firm that planned, designed and oversaw construction of the city’s new wastewater treatment plant on Bayside Road has won an award for that work.

Woodard & Curran won the 2014 Grand Conceptor Engineering Excellence Award from the Maine chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC).

That award, the highest given out by state chapters of ACEC, recognizes a company that exemplifies “quality, innovation, value and client satisfaction,” according to a press release from Woodard & Curran.

Woodard & Curran worked with the city to find a site for the new plant, design the facility and secure funding for the project. It also planned and oversaw the demolition of the old wastewater treatment plant on Water Street.
