ELLSWORTH — The Knowlton Community Park Campaign recently received a gift of $25,000 from Darling’s, meeting last spring’s $50,000 challenge from The First Bancorp, and moving closer toward the $1.2 million goal for the project.

“This is a real leap forward for the park project,” said Brenda Shelton, campaign co-chairman. She said the donation from Darling’s brings the total raised so far to nearly $700,000. She said that means planners are confident the fund-raising campaign can be finished in time so that work on the park can begin next spring.

Kevin Tesseo, general manager of Darling’s Auto Mall and Darling’s Chevrolet, said the car dealership is “honored to be able to support this wonderful community project.” Tesseo said the new park will “enhance the lives of the people who live and work in the Ellsworth area,” and said Darling’s is proud to help. Plans for the park, designed by landscape designer Victor Rydlizky, are on display at Ellsworth City Hall and on the Ellsworth city website. For more information, contact Martha Dudman at 276-5359.
