Conference Center Will Get Upgrade

BAR HARBOR — The conference center at the Atlantic Oceanside hotel would be entirely rebuilt this winter, according to plans filed by the Witham Family Limited Partnership.

A new, 80-by-100-foot, 2-story event center with walk-out basement would be constructed just to the west of the existing building. Once the work was completed, the old structure would be razed and a bus stop and grassed area for tent functions built in its place, planning documents state.

The conference center basement would be used for kitchen, office and storage spaces, with functions in the rest of the building. Features are to include a covered, drive-up entrance, first floor terrace, and a second floor deck.

The property was in need of many upgrades when the Witham family bought it in 2008, and those have steadily been advancing, company director of development David C. Witham said. Changes have included updated rooms, a new, 60-room building, outdoor swimming pool and a new pier.

“This is really the last major step to address,” Mr. Witham said of the conference center plans.
