Business district opposed

BAR HARBOR — The proposed expansion of the Town Hill business zone is set to come before voters this fall.

Town councilors Tuesday decided to keep the item on the warrant despite heavy opposition.

Not one person stood in support of the issue during Tuesday’s public hearing; applicants Tom Savage and Tom Dunn were represented by engineer Noel Musson, who spoke only briefly.

Route 102 from Town Hill to the head of the island is now labeled as a rural district, and residents have identified it as a rural and critical rural district in future land use plans.

The zoning proposal would convert properties along the east side of the road to match the Town Hill business zone, with higher density, decreased lot sizes and areas-per-family and expanded commercial uses.
