BUCKSPORT — Local groups have collaborated on a program to help lift up the community and its businesses as they struggle with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The new fund, established with support from Main Street Bucksport, the Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce and Bucksport Heart & Soul, is called Bucks’ Bucks. The program has received $4,000 in private donations with a goal of $10,000. Shoppers who purchase Bucks’ Bucks will double their spending power. Thanks to the donations, $10 in Bucks’ Bucks will be worth $20 at participating Bucksport businesses and organizations impacted by the shutdown.
Businesses accepting the $10 Bucks’ Bucks will be reimbursed $20 from the fund.
“They get needed business and the buyer gets a really good deal during a tough time,” organizers explained in a press release.
Area residents can also give their $10 Bucks’ Bucks to Bucksport Community Concerns, which will be reimbursed $20. Or they can give their Bucks’ Bucks to a friend or neighbor in need.
Donations can be made directly to the Bucks’ Bucks Fund at Bangor Savings Bank and by mail (P.O. Drawer P in Bucksport) or placed in the secure drop-off box at the Main Street Bucksport office at 20 Central St. Donations can also be made by debit or credit card through the Main Street Bucksport or Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce websites.
Details on where you can use Bucks’ Bucks, how to sign up your business to participate and more are available on the Main Street Bucksport and Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce websites. Starting May 7, you can purchase Bucks’ Bucks at either website using a debit or credit card.
