Boutique opens in larger space

ELLSWORTH — Raised ceilings, refinished original hardwood floors and lots and lots of color greet customers walking into the newly relocated Poppy & Polka Dot Boutique at 97 Main St. (formerly Beals Gifts). The store carries women’s clothing and accessories as well as some home décor items.

The opening connecting the space to the former jewelry shop next door has been walled over and now features a statement wall with large flowers in shades of coral, blue and white. The shop opened just down Main Street in 2019. The new space, which opened April 30, is 2,000 square feet compared to the 800 square feet at the previous location. Plus, there’s room to grow on the bottom floor.

The space is inviting and geared toward a clientele of all ages and a wide range of sizes (styles come in small to 3x).

“One of the best things about our business is we have generational shoppers,” said owner Amanda Beals. She said a grandmother might shop with her daughter and granddaughter, and all may be drawn to the same styles.

Beals said her specialty is personalized service. The store offers bra fittings and has a seamstress on staff by appointment for any needed alterations.

During the pandemic, most sales shifted online and business exploded, Beals said.

She works with over 40 brands and likes to source from U.S. clothing makers when she can. New items arrive daily and anywhere from 15-20 new items launch each week.

A customized hoodie with cheerful poppy-covered sleeves sold out online recently before it could even make it to the store’s shelves.

The store is open 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and around the clock online on its apps available in the Google Play and Apple stores. Visit https://poppyandpolkadot.commentsold.com/ to learn more and email [email protected]
