Bloomin’ businesses to be recognized

ELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth Garden Club, in partnership with the Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce and The Ellsworth American, is launching a program to recognize local businesses that are helping to make Ellsworth more “green” and attractive. Each week, the program will recognize a “Bloomin’ Business of the Week.”

A sign will be presented on a rotating weekly basis to a business that has taken special care to create some form of planting or floral display that contributes to the beauty of our community during the spring, summer and fall months through mid-October.

There will be several ways of gaining recognition as a Bloomin’ Business, such as window displays, container plantings in window boxes, planters or hanging baskets, and/or landscaping and plantings along frontage. Projects that are the result of the collective efforts of people connected with a particular business, as well as projects that are done by professional gardeners and landscapers, will all be considered. Any projects that incorporate the sesquicentennial theme of Ellsworth’s 250th birthday will be given special consideration.

Weekly winners will be featured with a photograph and short description in The American as well as, Chamber of Commerce publications and on the Ellsworth Garden Club’s Facebook page and website.

The first Bloomin’ Business of the season will be announced on June 3 to coincide with National Gardening Week, which runs June 2-8.

Businesses do not have to enter to be considered, but to be sure that a particular business is considered, contact Mary Blackstone at Mary.Blackstone or 667-8878.
