Air and Water Quality Business Opens in Ellsworth

ELLSWORTH — A Freeport-based company, Air & Water Quality Inc., has opened a location here on Route 1A.

The business’s president, Mike Gelberg, said his company has been focusing on residential and commercial work in western, central and southern Maine for the past 22 years.

 

Air & Water Quality designs and installs systems to treat “aesthetic water” issues such as high levels of manganese or iron.

The company also handles serious conditions such as water containing arsenic, radon or uranium.

Maine has some of the highest levels of radon in the country because of granite.

Granite contains uranium, which produces radon, Gelberg explained.

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States next to smoking, Gelberg said.

Arsenic is another serious health issue.
