Bucksport receives $250K housing grant

BUCKSPORT — The town of Bucksport is one of three Maine communities to receive Community Development Block Grants for rehabilitating homes and apartment buildings.

The Town Council unanimously accepted the $250,000 grant on July 25. Bucksport joins Augusta and Fairfield as the only Maine communities to receive the federal grant this year.

The grant allows income-eligible single-dwelling homeowners to apply for up to $15,000 in housing rehabilitation funds.

Apartments and other multi-dwelling owners with 51 percent or more low-income tenants qualify for up to $30,000 in rehabilitation funds.

Applications can be obtained on the town’s website, at the town office or food pantry or through Ron Harriman & Associates in Bangor.

Town officials expect to begin reviewing applications by the end of September.
