Bucksport Receives $250,000 Housing Grant

BUCKSPORT — Gardner Commons, a 26-unit elderly housing complex on Elm Street, will receive some upgrades this summer thanks to a $250,000 grant from the Maine Office of Economic and Community Development.

The money will be used to add ceiling fans, build tenant storage space, address parking lot drainage issues, install a community kitchen, build an extended porch and make several other improvements. Residents of the apartment building helped town officials select projects.

This is the second year the town has applied for a grant for improvements to Gardener Commons. Last year’s bid was unsuccessful.
