Bucksport Police Log: Waltham woman charged in $15,000 theft from Family Dollar

BUCKSPORT — Police have charged a Waltham woman for the alleged theft of $15,000 from the Family Dollar store last spring.

Michelle Chaloult, 47, was an employee of the Route 1 business last April, when the incident is believed to have taken place, Detective Sgt. David Winchester said. Police recently summoned Chaloult on charges of felony and misdemeanor theft, according to Winchester.

Winchester and Officer Dan Harlan began investigating the case in May, after receiving a complaint from a district manager of the Family Dollar chain.

The theft was discovered during the course of the company’s record keeping, but Winchester would not say more about Chaloult’s role at the store or how she is alleged to have taken the money.

Police issued the charges last weekend. Winchester said the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office would be serving the summonses to Chaloult.

Domestic violence arrest

Robert Colson, 33, of Bucksport was arrested on a charge of domestic assault on Feb. 28, after Officer Matthew Schmidt responded to an incident at a home on Route 46.

The alleged assault was against a woman living at the home, Winchester said. Police also charged Colson with obstructing the report of a crime and criminal mischief.

Colson was taken to Hancock County Jail.

Police are reminding residents to never leave their cars unlocked and, if possible, to not leave valuables in their cars. They are also asking for any information pertaining to the reported break-ins.

A man living on Oak Street reported to police that his Walmart credit card was charged for more than $1,000, and that he can’t account for the spending. Police are investigating the complaint.
