Two shot in armed confrontation with police

ELLSWORTH — A Maine Marine Patrol officer shot and wounded two people during the execution of an arrest warrant Saturday at a Machiasport residence, according to Maine Attorney General spokesman Andrew Roth-Wells.

“A warrant for the arrest of Jason M. Jackson, 33, of East Machias was issued as a result of an alleged home invasion in East Machias,” said Roth-Wells.  “Washington County deputy sheriffs, assisted by an officer of the Maine Marine Patrol, located Jackson at a residence in Machiasport.  An armed confrontation with the Marine Patrol officer ensued resulting in both Jackson and a female resident being shot and injured.”

“The Attorney General’s Office investigates all uses of deadly force by a law enforcement officer in Maine,” said Roth-Wells.

Department of Marine Resources spokesman Jeff Nichols said, “The incident is being investigated by the AG’s Office and the officer is currently on paid administrative leave per standard protocol.”

Nichols said the department will not identify the officer involved until the Attorney General’s investigation is complete.
