Furnace fire displaces Ellsworth residents

ELLSWORTH — Tenants of a residence on Amanda Lane in the Woodland Estates mobile home park off Bucksport Road were displaced after a late afternoon furnace fire Monday.

Ellsworth Fire Chief Richard Tupper said his department was called out for a report of “a furnace malfunction” at 4:28 p.m. However, when crews arrived, there was smoke and fire coming out of the furnace at 3 Amanda Lane.

Tupper said a man who lives at the property was not injured but the mobile home did sustain smoke and water damage as well as damage to the furnace.

One issue, the chief said, is that the tenant had been servicing the furnace himself.

Ellsworth had plenty of help from fire departments in Orland, Lamoine, Trenton and Hancock. The Dedham Fire Department was turned away while en route, Tupper said.

The department was on scene slightly less than an hour.
