Firefighters extinguish fire at Verso

BUCKSPORT — Firefighters Saturday morning extinguished a fire at the former Verso mill.

Assistant Chief Michael Denning said the 10 a.m. fire was touched off by sparks created by workers cutting holes in an outside metal wall of the TMP building. The shuttered paper mill is currently undergoing demolition.

The sparks ignited flammable material between two walls and sent flames up two stories. Firefighters from Bucksport, Orrington, Orland and Ellsworth responded to the alert. There were no injuries.
