EHS senior killed in Sedgwick crash

SEDGWICK — A young Sedgwick man was killed in a single vehicle accident on Caterpillar Hill Road in Sedgwick Friday, according to the Maine State Police.

The deceased, Dakota Markham, was 18, said Maine Public Safety spokeswoman Shannon Moss.

Markham had been driving south in a 2008 Subaru, when he drove across the oncoming lane and off the opposite side of the road, Moss said.

Markham was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. A passenger, 15, was injured and taken to a local hospital.  Both Markham and his passenger had been wearing their seatbelts.

“Speed and driver inexperience were factors in the crash,” police said.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, the Sedgwick Fire Department and Peninsula Ambulance assisted.

Markham was a senior at Ellsworth High School. He worked at Blaze in Blue Hill. The restaurant donated a portion of sales over the weekend to Markham’s family.
