DEER ISLE — Maine State Police have charged a former Deer Isle-Stonington physical education/health teacher with unlawful sexual contact with a student.

Detective Greg Mitchell arrested Izaak J. Bolduc, 25, of Blue Hill Thursday afternoon on three counts of unlawful sexual contact. Bolduc has since been released on bail.

Bolduc taught at both the middle school and the high school and was the Deer Isle-Stonington High School freshman boys’ basketball coach.

Hancock County District Attorney Matt Foster said the alleged victim is a 17-year-old girl.

“School staff members noticed that Bolduc was spending a lot of time with the alleged victim,” Foster said. “There were several instances when both Bolduc and the alleged victim disappeared together at school. The school social worker reported the concerns to administration and to DHHS.”

“Bolduc was put on leave/suspension while it was investigated by the school,” Foster said. “The referral to DHHS got the Maine State Police involved and a forensic interview was done with the alleged victim, who disclosed the alleged sexual touching.

“Bolduc admitted there was sexual touching, but denied there was any penetration or sexual intercourse.”

Union 76 Superintendent Christian Elkington sent a memo to parents and guardians on Friday.

“Mr. Bolduc has not been in school since May 3rd and will not be returning,” Elkington wrote. “Based on the information we have received the allegation is limited to this one teacher and one student.”

“We are cooperating with the state police in any way we can,” the superintendent said. “We take seriously any allegation that a member of the educational community would engage in any inappropriate behavior with a student.

“Indeed, we provide training, mentoring, and policy expectations for staff to follow, while also thoroughly investigating any such allegation.”

“This is a very serious issue, and we are asking our community to allow the Maine State Police to complete their investigation,” Elkington said.
