ELLSWORTH — The body of a West Jonesport fisherman who was seen falling off his boat Tuesday morning was recovered later that evening.
According to a statement from the Maine Department of Marine Resources, 51-year-old Scott Chandler’s body was found at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday by divers taking part in a search near Doyle Island, west of Hopkins Point in Jonesport.
Commercial seaweed harvesters in the area had reported seeing Chandler fall off his 20-foot lobster boat near the island at approximately 9:20 that morning.
The Maine Marine Patrol, the Maine State Police/Marine Patrol dive team, members of the Warden Service Dive Team and U.S. Coast Guard boats, a helicopter and plane participated in the search.
Chandler’s body was transported to a local funeral home.
The Marine Patrol and Coast Guard are investigating the circumstances of Chandler’s fall.
