Attempted drug-related robbery under investigation in Ellsworth

ELLSWORTH — Police are investigating an attempted robbery in which a man who believed he was going to buy drugs was instead threatened with violence and almost robbed.

On Wednesday evening, Ellsworth Police officers responded to an apartment on Oak Street for what was initially reported as a “fight involving a possible bat and a gun.”

An investigation revealed a man had gone to the apartment “to purchase drugs for a large sum of money.” The man had been set up, however, according to police, and a group of people was instead “waiting at the apartment … to take his money.”

One of the group members displayed a baseball bat when the man showed up, police reported, and a gun was also mentioned but never shown.

Police said the man who showed up planning to buy drugs was able to flee the scene without injury and without losing any of his money.

Several suspects were located at the scene, police said, and others were found in the course of the night’s investigation.

Lt. Harold Page said Friday that no one has been charged yet and that the case remains under investigation.
