Black ice a factor in Gouldsboro accident

GOULDSBORO — A 6-year-old girl got a bump on her head Dec. 7 when her mother’s SUV hit black ice on Route 186 and hit a tree, police said.

Police said neither the mother, Mary Juzwik, 45, of Lansing, Mich., nor her daughter required medical attention.

“The little girl was cleared by EMS at the scene,” Police Chief Paul Gamble said.

Juzwik was heading toward Route 1 when her Honda Element struck black ice, skidded into a wood pile in front of a home and then struck a nearby tree.

The vehicle came to rest sideways a short distance away.
